Deviation Actions
I've kinda sorta fixed my rendering problem, after 4 months. Renders are still taking an excruciating amount of time (2.5 days on average) but they are no longer crashing. Of my unposted pieces, I've fully rendered two and a third is 80% done. I have another 3 to go from my unrendered folder beyond that before I start back in on new stuff. I still need to post-process the lot of them, but expect to see new work from me posted sometime next week.

I've been staying away from here for the most part because I had no new work to post, but I've been coming in every couple of weeks and poking about in people's journal and deviation posts. When I logged in and saw a fractal prints feature, I was really excited... until I looked through it and saw the same dozen names repeated multiple times on every single page, with only a couple of token others for 'variety', and even those didn't start appearing until several pages into the feature. Yes, the artists featured are both prolific and talented. A couple of them are rightly recognized as fractal art pioneers for their advances in scripting, programming, and technique. That being said, there are *hundreds* of talented fractal artists on this site, and it's deeply disappointing to see the same stable of a few select artists trotted out whenever the site administrators decide to post a fractal feature.
Back when I was putting together the Fractalicious features, I made a concerted effort to feature the lesser known artists, and would never have two works from the same artist in the same feature. Did I feature the better known fractal artists? Absolutely, but I was not so slavish in my devotion to their work that I insisted on having those well-known names in every feature - in fact a couple of them never appeared in Fractalicious at all before I stopped putting the issues together due to time constraints.
I am not going to call anyone to the mat over this. I'm not going to name names of the artists who admins seem to view as the only fractal artists on the site. It is not their fault. But wouldn't it be great to see the lesser knowns get a little love again?
//And for the record, yes, I went through all 42 pages of the feature. I'm not talking out of my ass here.

Nothing to see here, move along.
No, seriously. Nothing to see here.
YET.
Project Launch! and other updates
Hi everybody! Long time no see!
I have a project on Kickstarter!
I'm pleased to announce that today is launch day for my project on Kickstarter.com! Calculating: Beautiful Math for the Masses, when funded, will allow me to create a traveling booth of fractal art for sale and display at street fairs, community events, and art shows throughout Southern California. But I need your help to make it happen!
Click on the link below to check out the full project description. Contributions start at just $1, and every little bit helps!

Book update!
For those of you wondering where the project title came
A book? A BOOK!
So, I've decided to finally finish the fractal art book I started compiling two years ago... and I'm going to try and finish it before New Year's, including tons of new images.
I'm shooting for about 200 pages, and in addition to images I'm also going to explain some of the math behind fractal art and the more popular programs, formulas, and variations. My original working titles seem... juvenile to me now. I'm now taking title suggestions.
I'm going to publish this as a perfect-bound paperback book, 8 1/2 x 11 vertical, in order to keep the cost reasonable and make it more accessible. I'm also going to be doing my best to have this distrib
Art show upcoming!
I opened my email this morning to a very pleasant surprise - my work has been accepted into the Multiversal 2011 art show in Miami! I'm fairly sure I know which of my pieces was accepted, but I'll be updating this journal once they've sent my work selection and delivery instructions for the show.
This is the first show I've even attempted to enter in two years. I'm so excited! :D
EDIT:
Just got the email telling me which work was accepted, and I was a bit surprised. Centrifuge was accepted into their group here on dA, but the piece that's going in the show is...

So, color me a bit shocked.
